And if you are interested in reading this book, I do recommend this edition edited by Scull and Hammond. It has a very uneven tone, and I’m not sure that I like either extreme. The songs got a little melancholy at the end, but I think that fits Middle Earth.

Tolkien’s writings have inspired many other works of fantasy and have had a lasting effect on the entire field.
